This is the third part of a series on the Health Risks we are facing in our Modern Lifestyle. In the first part, we had looked at how exposure to free radicals contribute to premature aging. In the second part, we considered the impact of what we eat, because WE ARE WHAT WE EAT. Now, we will look into our lifestyle habits which we may easily overlook.

Unhealthy Lifestyle Habits

Fighting for recognition in my early days of being a budding employee, I didn’t hesitate to put in long hours at work, sacrificing my rest. Most of the time when I left the office, the sky would already be dark. Being able to leave during daylight hours was very much a luxury for me.

Coupled with the stress level at work, the lack of rest was definitely contributing to my slow but sure deterioration of health. However, at that point in time, I was still young and did not think much of it.

At the same time, I was one who was very concerned with taking good care of my skin, so that it looks great. I would layer on creams, serums, essence, ampoules, make up, cosmetics…ah, the endless names of the things we can put on our face.

However, never once have I stopped to look at the ingredient label and make sense of it. Only now do I realize that we need to avoid substances like Sodium Lauryl Sulphate, Triclosan because they are cancer causing!!

If you’re a gentleman and thinking that this is irrelevant to you, do you know that sodium lauryl sulphate and triclosan are commonly used also in our shower gels, shampoos, toothpaste…etc? I will be sharing more about safety of household products (including skincare, cosmetics, personal hygiene toiletries) in the near future. Do stay tuned.

In Conclusion


After understanding the many risk factors that we face in this Modern Lifestyle, we need to take action in order to reverse our path from the inevitable path onto disease. Without changing our currently lifestyle habits, we will be facing the same risks – 1 in 4 have Cancer, 1 in 3 have Diabetes…and the statistics go on.

Even with such statistics, some people will think that they will not be that unlucky 1. However, taking another perspective, think about how many people are there in your family. If there are 4 in your family, among them 1 will have cancer. If there are 3 in your family, among them 1 will have diabetes. Can we accept this?

If not, take action today, change your lifestyle and you will change your future.
